HISTORY OF KING ABSTRACT COMPANY The prehistory of King Abstract Company begins with Clayborn Oxford who moved his family into the territory in the year 1853, three years before Erath County was marked off from Bosque County . The territory, at that time, was still very much on the frontier of civilization. His grandson, William Jackson Oxford, formed a local business known as Oxford & Macmillan Abstract Company. This company provided title evidence and legal services for real estate transactions for the local civilization that began to take root. In 1893, Oxford & Macmillan sold their business to Don and Bingham King, whereupon the name was changed to King Abstract Company. The King family would serve the county's citizenry for 70 years across several generations. In 1964, the company was purchased William Jackson Oxford, II. He and his wife, Anna Mae Oxford continued to preserve the company’’s heritage and records until the passing of Judge Oxford in 1976. William Oxford, III and his wife Paula, inherited the legacy at that time. They ran the business until March of 1999, when the company was purchased by William Oxford, IV and his wife, Mischa.
